Pregnant Women at Higher Stroke Risk from Migraines

March 11th, 2009 . by Peter

pregnancyStudies are showing that women who are pregnant get a higher risk of heart diseases and other vascular conditions that can be quite risky which makes proper medical monitoring a vital part of the health check regimen. As statistics show, around 26% of all childbearing aged women suffer from migraines aged 35 to 39. Vascular diseases are also known to develop during pregnancy but the link between the two have not yet been undertaken hence the move to do so has been taken with a sizable group of test subjects to get a good data set.
The study has so far found that a 15% increase of cardiovascular diseases has been found in women during pregnancy, more for those who engage in other health impacting behavior such as smoking and the likes. The risks are there due to severe changes in the woman’s body which may be due to the severe hormonal ebbs and flows that occurs all throughout pregnancy. The study encompassed 18 million hospital cases from which 33,956 pregnancy related migraines during pregnancy was observed. It is considered to be the largest study in terms of size making it more reliable than previous tests limited to select individuals.
